| Introduction to the Ramsey Office of Emergency Management |
||||
| The Ramsey Office of Emergency Management (OEM) was chartered in 1944, during WWII. In the ensuing 64 years, it has grown tremendously in response to the many different types of emergencies that could occur in the borough. The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in the Ramsey Municipal Building, is equipped with the latest communications equipment and computers to monitor any hazard, respond with Ramsey's other public safety agencies, and report any serious conditions to Ramsey's residents, the county, the state, and the federal government. Ramsey's OEM staff is comprised of as many Eagle Scouts as most Scout troops, more amateur radio operators (hams) as most ham radio clubs, the same number of Emergency Medical Technicians and Certified First Responders as many area ambulance corps, and as many law enforcement officers as several police departments in Bergen County. RAMSEY OEM, today, is concerned with man-made and natural disasters, provides communication support for various public service events such as Ramsey Day and countless state-wide public service events like the various Cancer & Diabetes races and bike-a-thons. In the past Ramsey OEM has been heavily involved with relief efforts during the WTC tragedy, disaster assesssment during Hurricane Floyd, shelter ops following the disaterous Hackensack fire, etc. The group is headed by coordinator Mike Adams and deputy coordinators Bruce Greenwood, Sgt. Glen Karpovich(Ret.), and Sgt. Angelo LaManna. The RACES and RADEF divisions are under the supervision of Lou Janicek and Wayne Lemme, respectively and Michael Greenshields as Mitigation Officer. The RAMSEY OEM is always looking for new members. Members span high school students to the ranks of Senior Citizens. Immediately following any serious emergency situation in Ramsey, OEM will activate the SwiftReach Community Reverse 911 system and notifiy our residents & businesses of the status of the condition that exists. The Ramsey OEM meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month, at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) on the lower level of the Municipal Building.
